Insect Week

Join us for National Insect Week for a whole host of fascinating and fun insect-themed activities. 

Together we will explore through games, talks, craft-making and storytelling how beautiful, clever, mysterious and wonderful insects are.  And find out why they are the mini beasts that make the world go around. 

Come and take a look at what we are doing at Whipsnade Zoo for our native insects.  Don’t miss out on discovering how you too can create a world at home where insects thrive. 

All Week 

Visit the Biggest butterfly house in the UK. Featuring more than 30 different species from around the world, visitors are surrounded by hundreds of colourful butterflies. 

Weekdays only 

• Monday 24 June – Toddler Safari at 11.00 
• Tuesday 25 June – Toddler Safari at 11.00 
• Thursday 27 June - Walk of the Week at 10.30 
• Free drop-in activities between 10.30 and 2.00 around the Learning Hub – Discover insect up close and learn about the important role they play in the ecosystem. Don’t miss out on discovering how you too can create a world at home where insects thrive. 

Weekend only 

Talks, games and activities happening across the weekend including: 

• Meet the moths* - Join us on Saturday and Sunday mornings on our moth survey to discover what’s been flying about overnight. 
• Move like a minibeast next to Owl Wood - Who’s the fastest? Who’s the strongest? Join our interactive games and test out your own skills before visiting our amazing invertebrates in the Butterfly house to see our animals’ skills in action. 
• Interactive storytelling in the Learning Hub – Join us for an afternoon storytime around the learning hub. 
• Talks in the Butterfly house - Get closer to nature and learn more about animals from across the world. Our daily animal talks share the latest understanding of endangered species, their habitats, and how we can protect them.
